Tryo was formed in 1995 when Guizmo, Manu Eveno and Christophe Mali joined forces, with percussionist Daniel “Danielito” Bravo coming on board in 1996. The band created an acoustic style of reggae built on three guitars and three voices, with lyrics that blend humor, environmental awareness and social commentary. Their self-produced debut album Mamagubida (1998) spread by word of mouth before going on to be certified platinum.
It was followed by Faut qu’ils s’activent (2000), Grain de sable (2003), which won an Académie Charles Cros award, then Ce que l’on sème (2008) and Ladilafé (2012), both certified platinum. Né quelque part (2014), Vent debout (2016) and Chants de bataille (2021) continued the story, while the anniversary double album XXV (2020) revisited their classics with a long list of guests. In 2007, the DVD Tryo fête ses 10 ans won the Victoire de la Musique for music DVD of the year. The band reports more than one million albums sold. Since Manu left in 2021, Tryo has carried on as a trio with Guizmo, Mali and Daniel.
Songs such as L’Hymne de nos campagnes have become sing-along favorites across several generations. With more than 1,000 concerts behind them, Tryo delivers a festive, inclusive show that works for every audience, making the band a great fit for a festival, a town celebration or a corporate event built around positive values.

The album XXV brought together Renaud, Alain Souchon, Véronique Sanson, -M-, Hubert-Félix Thiéfaine, Bernard Lavilliers, Vianney and Dub Inc, while a collective version of L’Hymne de nos campagnes featured Zaz, Bigflo & Oli, Boulevard des Airs, Claudio Capéo, LEJ and Gauvain Sers. On stage, Tryo has shared the bill with Zebda, La Rue Kétanou, Arthur H and Ayọ.
The band has performed in France, Canada, Argentina, Japan and even Nepal. In Paris, they have played the Olympia, the Cabaret Sauvage, the Zénith for their tenth anniversary and Bercy in 2009, a show of more than three hours broadcast by Arte. Major festivals have welcomed them time and again, including the Francofolies de La Rochelle, Vieilles Charrues, Paléo Festival in Nyon, Printemps de Bourges, Solidays, the Eurockéennes and Dour Festival.
After their 25th-anniversary tour, which wrapped in May 2022 at the Accor Arena and was captured on the live album Tout au tour (2022), Tryo went for a closer connection with the Tout Intime Tour, some forty dates in 2023 in more intimate venues, including the Folies Bergère. In April 2024, the band announced a break with no set return date, as its members focus on their own projects, such as Christophe Mali’s 2025 solo album Humain.
