Born in Boulogne-Billancourt, just outside Paris, in 1949, Véronique Sanson got her start in the late 1960s with the trio Les Roche Martin, before releasing her first single, Le Printemps est là, in 1969. In 1972, Michel Berger produced her debut album, Amoureuse: the title track became a classic and Besoin de personne sold more than 100,000 copies. The following year, she moved to the United States with Stephen Stills, whom she married in 1973.
That American period shaped albums such as Le Maudit (1974), Vancouver (1976) and Hollywood (1977), where her French songwriting took on pop, rock and soul colors. She went on with 7ème (1979), Laisse-la vivre (1981), Moi le venin (1988), Sans regrets (1992), Indestructible (1998), Longue Distance (2004), Plusieurs Lunes (2010) and Dignes, dingues, donc… (2016). She won the Victoire de la Musique for female artist in 1993, on the strength of Sans regrets and the single Rien que de l’eau, and again in 1996 for her show Comme ils l’imaginent, plus an honorary Victoire in 2013, the SACEM Grand Prix (1991) and the Grande médaille de la chanson française (2015).
A pianist who writes and composes her own songs, Véronique Sanson has an instantly recognizable voice and pen. Her repertoire, from Chanson sur ma drôle de vie to Bahia, speaks to several generations, making her a first-rate choice for a gala, a prestige evening or a festival.

Over her career, Véronique Sanson has shared the stage and the mic with Michel Berger, Stephen Stills and their son Chris Stills, Fanny Ardant, Patrick Bruel, Marc Lavoine, Eddy Mitchell, Grand Corps Malade and William Sheller. The album Duos Volatils (2018) revisits her songs as duets, and Tryo invited her onto their anniversary album XXV. Jay-Z even sampled Une nuit sur son épaule for his 2008 track History.
The Olympia remains her favorite venue, where she has played many runs, including nine nights during the Les années américaines tour (2015–2016). She has also performed at the Palais des sports, the Zénith, the Grand Rex, Salle Pleyel and the Théâtre du Châtelet, as well as the Francofolies de La Rochelle. Her Hasta Luego tour kept her on the road from 2022 to 2025.
In April 2024, she celebrated her 75th birthday on stage at the Grand Rex. In 2025, she played the Francofolies in La Rochelle and Spa, followed by a fall arena tour and two nights at La Seine Musicale. October 2025 saw the release of J’ai eu envie de vous revoir, her first new song in nine years, which gives its name to her fall 2026 tour, wrapping up December 16 and 17 at La Seine Musicale.
